Es ist ein Ros entsprungen, by Michael Praetorius

Roses are a theme in our forthcoming Baroque Christmas program. As well as this advent carol set by Praetorius, you’ll hear a setting of the same words by Herbert Howells. Howells was inspired by Praetorius’ setting, and set a beautiful English translation of this text by Catherine Winkworth, titled A spotless rose.
