Who are we?DONATE NOW

The ACC, established in 2007 by Douglas Lawrence and Elizabeth Anderson, has given 125 concerts around Europe and many more in Australia. Music critics in four countries have praised the choir’s “flawless intonation, superb uniformity, perfect tonal balance and astounding dynamic range” (General Anzeiger Bonn, daily newspaper).

The ACC provides a rigorous training ground for young professional singers. ACC graduates currently work in Europe with ensembles such as Les Arts Florissants, Bristol Ensemble, Freiburg Barockorchester and Vox Luminis. Payment to all current ACC singers is an important affirmation of their standing as professionals. In addition to performing in our home town of Melbourne, we present every program in one or more regional centres.

Why donate?

During our 2024 concert tour of Europe, we captured footage of the European premiere of Agatha’s Cantata, which took place at Palazzo Pisani in Venice. Our Venetian audience was fascinated to discover this three-hundred-year-old work. Agatha, born in Venice, without the fingers of her left hand, was an orphan at the Ospedale della Pietà, at the time when Antonio Vivaldi was employed there as a teacher and composer. Catherine Hunter’s documentary tells the story of the ACC and its tours, of Elizabeth Anderson’s discovery and reconstruction of the cantata, of Agatha’s story and the ACC’s premiere performance of her Cantata in Venice. We want to share Agatha’s story of triumph over adversity with music lovers everywhere.

What’s the goal?

The Choir has already raised $90,000 towards this documentary, which we expect to be broadcast on Australian television. An additional $15,000 will cover the completion of the 50-minute production. The Australian Chamber Choir has worked hard to support young professional singers and entertain audiences with high quality classical music for the last 17 years, and during that time, we have realised many of our dreams. Agatha, born in 1712 would have been audacious to dream of success in the all-male world of musical composition. But today we live in a different reality. Agatha’s story has remained untold for the last 300 years and we now have the opportunity to tell her story and realise her wildest dreams.

Please consider a tax deductible donation to the Australian Chamber Choir Inc’s Support Fund.
The funds will be used

  • to complete our documentary, and any remaining funds will be used
  • to subsidise concerts that are not viable on ticket sales alone, such as some regional concerts and those which require specialised resources for authentic performance.
  • to live-stream our concerts and produce videos for YouTube.
  • to commission new works and make sound recordings.
  • to build a financial base to support our singers for the long term.
