THE HEAVENS OPENED AND THE SOUL DANCED
Under the auspices of the 6th Music Festival presented by the Ars Activia Foundation, Zielona Góra was treated to a visit by the Australian Chamber Choir. This excellent program, heard within the welcoming walls of the Evangelical Church, Zielona Góra on Saturday July 13 complemented the Mozart Plus theme with English and Australian music. The splendid 18-voiced mixed a-cappella ensemble had the church ringing with the sounds of compositions by William Byrd, Edward Bairstow, Anne Boyd, Orlando Gibbons, Robin Estrada, Robert Schumann and Johann Sebastian Bach.
The obligatory Mozart took the form of the hymn, Ave verum, accompanied on the organ by conductor, Douglas Lawrence.
The audience was overcome with admiration for the “angel-voices” of the Australian Chamber Choir. Audience members were heard to remark “I have never before witnessed such a perfect performance”, “The heavens opened and the soul danced”.
Ewa Monczak, the Artistic Director of the Festival announced two more concerts, combining Mozart with French Music (27.07.2013) and with Chopin (03.08.2013). The next concert takes place in the Lubusz Museum.
