In European countries across the centuries, Christmas has been marked by vibrant and joyous music-making. Serious composers would compete with each other to write music with the maximum popular appeal for adults and children alike. This program represents the “pick of the pops” from the late 1500s to the late 1700s.

The program will be selected from the following:
Andreas Hammerschmidt (1611-75) Halleluia, freuet euch ihr Christien alle
Giovanni Gabrieli (1557-1612) O Magnum Mysterium
Michael Praetorius (1571-1621) Singt und klingt
Bartholomäus Gesius (1562-1613) Ein Kind geborn zu Bethlehem
JS Bach (1685-1750) O Jesulein süß
Johannes Eccard (1553-1611) Von Himmel hoch, Resonent in laudibus
Heinrich Schütz (1585-1672): Das Wort ward Fleisch
Michael Praetorius (1571-1621) Hier liegt in Praesepio
JS Bach (1685-1750): Pastorale in F (BWV 590), first movement
Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck (1562-1621) Hodie
Martin Luther (1483-1546) Von Himmel hoch
JS Bach (1685-1750) In dulci jubilo
Franz Xaver Gruber (1787-1863) Stille Nacht, heiliger Nacht
Johannes Eccard (1553-1611) Resonent in laudibus
Samuel Scheidt (1587-1654) In dulci jubilo
